Dr. Scott Boerma, director of bands at Western Michigan University, joins Cara Lieurance to preview a concert by the WMU Concert Band and Symphonic Band on Nov. 20 in Miller Auditorium.  Original and adapted works of Turina, Lo Presti, Jager, Alarcon, Respighi, Grantham and Schoenberg are featured.

The Western Winds is a combined faculty-student group at Western Michigan University, led by Dr. Scott Boerma, who brought along graduate students Michael Gause (trumpet) and Laura Diaz (bassoon) to talk to Cara Lieurance about a concert on November 1. The program featured the world premiere of a new work by WMU professor of jazz trumpet, Scott Cowan, called La Suite de las Noches Hispanicas. 

The Western Michigan University Symphonic Band performs in Miller Auditorium this Sunday at 3 pm in a free concert. Director of Bands Scott Boerma stopped by to talk about the program of new and classic works for winds.

Renata Knific, professor of violin at Western Michigan University, speaks with Cara Lieurance about her unusual violin recital, featuring works for unaccompanied violin by Sergei Prokofiev and Mikos Rozsa. Gene Knific, her son who is himself a musician/composer, joins them to talk about Warmth, a piece he wrote for Renata. And Nora Lewis, the director of Western Michigan's Bullock Performance Institute, previews upcoming concerts on the series, held most Wednesday nights September and April in the Dalton Center Recital Hall.
